The Reserve Bank of India on Thursday announced it will soon issue a new series of Rs 100 currency notes. The new design for the Rs 100 denomination, part of the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series features a lavender colour as the base, with a motif depicting ‘Rani Ki Vav’, which means the queen’s step well. Rani ki vav is a UNESCO World Heritage site in Patan, Gujarat.
This will be the fifth new banknote design to be issued by the RBI after the government demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1000 banknotes in November 2016. So far, the central bank has released new designs for banknotes in denominations of Rs 50 and Rs 500, along with a new denomination of Rs 200 and Rs 2000.
Rani ki Vav is a UNESCO World Heritage site in Patan, Gujarat. Here are some features of the new banknote:
The dimensions of the note at 66 mm × 142 mm are smaller than the one in circulation at present (73mm X 157 mm).

As a security feature, the note will feature a windowed thread with inscriptions ‘bharat’ and RBI on it, which will change colour from blue to green, depending on the angle at which the note is held.
The note will carry a Mahatama Gandhi portrait in the centre, on the front side of the note, and Ashoka Pillar emblem on the right.
For the visually impaired, an intaglio or raised printing of the Mahatma Gandhi portrait, Ashoka Pillar emblem, and a raised triangular identification mark with micro-text 100, along with four angular bleed lines both on the right and left sides will make the note easier to identify.
The reverse side of the note will have a ‘Swachh Bharat’ logo with Gandhi’s spectacles on the left-hand bottom.
